the relevancy of the upcoming RECON in Vegas is at a tipping point. Now I am not saying that there is no value to the conference since I strongly believe that the networking potential of this conference is the core benefit to all attendees regardless of how long they have been in the business. we can all acknowledge that networking is the life blood of our industry.
The tipping point i referenced is the impact that a cutback in participation by the Landlord, Developer and Retailer will have on this years convention as well as future conventions. Most are participating with a much smaller staff while others like Simon and Westfield decided to set up their sessions in nearby hotel suites rather than their usual positions at the convention centers. Some retailers have even decided not to attend which is something that would have been unheard of in the past.the majority of the attendees have cut back in one form or another.
Should the experience of the attendees be percieved as efficient and cost effective, then what will the impact be on next year's conference. Are these cutbacks just a reflection of the economic environment and when times get better we will go back to pre 2009 participation? Will the reduction in participants, change of venue, attendance create a new business model to be duplicated in the coming years.

How is DESNOS different or the same as RAD? I am an adoptive parent. My child has been in an EBD class since placement. My peers really are mom's whose kids have behavioral disorders; we are adoptive parents. Most of our kids carry the diagnosis RAD. Perhaps it is just the way it is term is applied. I recently read the APSAC Task Force on Attachment Therapy. Perhaps all of our kids should have the diagnosis DESNOS instead. Among adoptive parents an unattached child is one who lacks a conscience, is self-centered, self-serving and poses a danger to other children. This description doesn't really seem to fit the diagnostic criteria of indiscriminate attachment or reluctance to attach.

I suppose I should admit my bias. I don't use what would classically be called attachment parenting in my home. The classes I took prior to adoption featured videos by a well known expert on “therapeutic parenting” and frankly I found her view of the kids demeaning and certainly not in agreement with the scriptural idea that I am parenting a unique, eternal image-bearer.

A little to this thread but here goes. I was 6-7 years old, flying from Northern Europe to Greece and the civil war in the former Yugoslavia was under way. Mid flight our pilot announces that they have to make an emergency detour because of aerial conflict. So we end up at an airport in Poland. Being the menace that I was, I proceed to run around the terminal looking for something fun to do. That’s when I stumbled upon the love of my life. She was obviously an adult, but she had a freaking gameboy with Battletoads in it. Being the stud that I was and knowing what I wanted, I proceeded to swagger over to her and spit my game at her. Seven or eight questions later, I cut to the chase and asked her. “Can I play?” Bam, I had a gameboy to kill time with. That was my first time with Battletoads and for that brief 1-2 minutes before we had to depart, I was alive. Naturally wanting more of that sweet entertainment, I proceed to play the “kid at Toys R’ Us” card and beg my parents to buy me one from the airport Kiosk. My parents brushed my pleas aside and we got on the plane. We get in our seats, my parents buckle me in, the engines turn on and the plane slowly pulls out of the terminal. Suddenly, the pilot comes over the PA system and informs us that there’s been a bomb threat at the airport and all planes are grounded. With the terminals closed, they had turned to the emergency evacuation protocol: The blow up Slide! While everyone was hesitant at jumping, I eagerly ran for it and dove face-first. A cop/security guard grabs me and runs me to a bus where everyone was heading, and we’re on our way to a nearby hotel. We stay overnight and have breakfast in the morning, where I am introduced to the delicacy named bacon (Parents didn’t eat pork). 4000 strips of it later, it’s time to give Greece another shot and we head to the airport. As we’re waiting in the terminal, I spot my gameboy breezy again and I walk over to work my magic. As I approach her, my dad grabs me by the shoulder and forbids me from harassing her. Are you saying that Moses was writing about Christ in Genesis, right from chapter 1, but that Moses did not speak of Him as “the Son” until he wrote Exodus? I can see that the presentation of Christ as the Son does come out in clear terms in Exodus but I'm not sure why you exclude that from Genesis. I'm not clear on that line of reasoning.

As a point of history, Philo of Alexandria built his understanding of God the Father and God the Son on the early chapters of Genesis.

For example – “For the Father of the universe has caused him to spring up as the Eldest Son, whom, in another passage, he calls the Firstborn; and He who is thus born, imitating the ways of His Father, has formed such and such species, looking to His archetypal patterns.” [On the Confusion of Tongues, XIV, 63]

The same understanding of the Son – as the Word or the First-born Word comes repetitively in Philo – and mostly from Genesis.

“And even if there be not as yet any one who is worthy to be called a son of God, nevertheless let him labour earnestly to be adorned according to his first-born Word, the Eldest of his Angels, as the great Archangel of many names; for he is called, the Authority, and the Name of God, and the Word, and Man according to God’s image, and He who sees Israel. Philo's argument seems to be something like this [though I'm no expert on Philo]
1. Humanity is made by God, not in Himself but in His Image.
2. His Image is distinct from Himself, but is also God.
3. From the very beginning fathers beget sons in their own image.
4. The Son [the Image of God; the Word of God] is begotten of the Father.

From what I can follow, to me Philo seems to make sense and seems to be expressing the intent of Genesis. Why is the father-son relationship so emphasised in those early chapters if it is not teaching us fundamental realities? Why is the doctrine of the second person so elaborated in so many ways if we are not to learn a rich theology of Him?

I certainly agree with that but I'm not sure I would want to limit the titles of Christ. If someone was going to be picky, why choose the title 'Christ' for Genesis 2-3?

In my own studies of Genesis there seem to be a whole variety of ways that Christ is presented. To pick just the obvious ones, He is presented as Word, Image and Light [chapter 1]; Voice [chapter 3]; Son and LORD-Man [chapter 4] and then in the story of Abraham the titles are emphasised and expanded – Visible LORD [chapter 12]; Priest of God Most High [14]; Word of the LORD [15]; Angel of the LORD and El-Shaddai [16]; LORD on earth [19]… etc. etc.

I had an interesting flight home. We lost cabin pressure and had to make an emergency landing at Dulles. A flight attendant who had been flying for 40 years said she had never before seen the oxygen masks come down. Me neither, and one time is enough for a life time.
I spent Sunday night at a nearby hotel and got home around noon on Monday. I used the time to reflect on thoughts raised during the retreat.

is at 29th Ave North – not exactly close to Springmaid (you'd not want to walk) but an easy to find drive. 29th Ave North is the road that is just past Broadway at the Beach (where you'll find Ripley's Aquarium). It's a pretty quick trip. Maybe 15 minutes in summer traffic.

Your other good options tend to be down around Pawley's Island which is a little drive.

UVs are very helpful in controlling green water in the pond. Just be aware of a couple things. One, a UV will not control string algae, only green water. Two, UV bulbs do need to be replaced every year to maintain effectiveness. Last but not least, if you are having problems with green water there is usually an underlying cause such as water quality, too many fish or not enough biological filtration. Adding a UV filter will give a quick fix to the problem and can be very useful, just make sure it doesn't become the life support system of your pond.
