It is possible. And you dont have to pay to use a public beach usually. You just have to check with your local beach people and ask them if you can use it during that time. Or you can do it on a pier overlooking the beach. Something else to consider is going through a hotel because they can offer the ceremony, reception, linens, food, and a wedding planner for a inclusive price. Almost any hotel you go to will have varying price options that will fit any budget. I am having my wedding at a hotel in Florida and the prices at mine ranged from 1500 to about 5000. If you do the cheaper one, you can have money left over for the cake, photos, and the DJ.

Joel, et al,This is not a mistake. The Hebrew reads very clearly and concisely.I’ll repost my comment from the other thread:There is a time in the Hebrew/biblical day called “bein ha’erevim”, or “between the evenings”.Lev 23 tells us this feast starts on the 15th of the month. The ‘eighth day’ is the 22nd, using math. The Eighth day is a ‘sacred assembly’, meaning it is to be treated like a sabbath. Therefore, they would NOT have travelled back home, as it would have made their sanctification of the day moot. The biblical days start and end at ‘evening’, or ‘bein ha’erevim’. At that time, the two days overlap. The blessing occurred at the end of the 22nd, which is the eighth day of the feast, and the dismissing occurred moments later, on the 23rd day. This is not a contradiction, nor a mistake, but a ‘sod’, something to make us ‘search the scriptures’ and ‘understand’.One cannot use the gregorian calendar at all to make predictions concerning the coming of Messiah. And the Jewish calendar is not precise either. A BIBLICAL month lasts for only 27 to 29 days, and the ‘correction’ is not done by solar observation, as many posit, but on the ripening of the barley IN THE LAND of Israel, so our knowing of the exact moment of a “chodesh”, a new month, is impossible, much less a new year, or the time of Messiah’s return. The length of five months, then, is only precisely determined AS IT HAPPENS, and not by pre calculation. However, Yahweh DOES tell us the proximity of the Messiah’s return. But, this is a deep mystery. He will take His Bride, those who are obedient to His commands, into the ‘chuppah’ on Yom Teruah [Isaiah 26], and the Bride and Bridegroom will come out of the chuppah on Yom Kippur, seven years later [Joel 2]. The Bridegroom/King, Messiah Yeshua, will put His foot down on earth on Yom Kippur, and judge the disobedient. The Millenial Reign of the Messiah will begin on the first day of Sukkot, four days later. And those are 4 twenty-four hour periods. The key to understanding the scriptures is ALL the feasts, understood in their agricultural, cultural, and sacred contexts. Messiah fulfilled the first four when He came the first time. The next in line is Yom Teruah, then Yom Kippur, and then Sukkot. He told us PLAINLY that He would fulfill all of these. Along with these feasts is Yovel. Leviticus 25-26 detail Yovel, and reads like a chapter straight out of Revelation, but in actuality, the judgements of Revelation come out of Leviticus. Yovel is the returning of land to its rightful owner. When Messiah comes, the land will return to Him. The ‘clock’ of Yovel is 50 years. When one considers that there are 120 Yovel cycles in 6000 years, then we should be fixing our sights on Yovel. If the last Yovel was 70 AD, as many scholars believe [and many do not] then the 120th Yovel is nearly upon us. Considering that Yahweh tells Noah “I shall number man’s years to 120″, there is something to be considered here.I do not believe there is any mismatch at all in the account of the sanctifying of the Temple and the celebration of Sukkot. The Hebrew reads very, very plainly, regardless of what veiled english interpretors attempt at it. But, Yeshua did associate the flood with His return, but the ‘key’ is the Yovel. Thanks for the interesting thread!

We actually did that with a number of "after-parties" for different groups of friends, family, etc. and it turned out GREAT. We also didn't want gifts–we just wanted to celebrate in a manageable, meaningful way.

I strongly advise you to invite every guest by name, so that it is clear who is invited and who is not. I reworded slightly, making it shorter and less rambling.

"Reception to follow" is fine; it is understood to mean that following the ceremony. I suggest you skip the eMail and ask for RSVP by phone. Delegate helpers to make and take the calls so that they can advise prospective guests that "the couple is hoping you will not feel obliged to bring a gift. They have all they need except for you to be there." You can see where it might be awkward to thus advise them yourself.

BTW, if this is in a church you request "the honour of the presence of" instead of the pleasure of the company. If it's God's House then only God can issue invitations, but the rest of us can say we hope to see someone at God's house.

    Best wishes!

Why do you think the Fort Walton airport is closer to the beach than the New Panama City Beach Airport? Both airports are approximately 7 miles north of US 98 (which is roughly where the beach is). According to the FW airport site it takes 45 minutes to 1hour to reach the Destin/Sandestin area. Travel to Destin/Sandestin from PCB should be about the same or less.

Now only 10 miles from the new Panama City Beach airport there are multiple condos to choose from as well as great shopping and restaurants. I have never stayed in FW so maybe they have the same services.

In my experience, Southwest is generally more economical than the 5 airlines servicing FWB. When I have flown to the area I have never found FW airport to be the most economical although it looks like they have some nice rates posted on the site now. I have been in and out of Panama City, Pensacola and Dothan. Friends have flown into Jacksonville and Tallassee to save money.

I still like our chances for new business in Panama City Beach. I hope that the new Panama City Beach airport will help out Destin, Seaside and Rosemary Beach as well. Hopefully competition will lower rates across the region and the article will bring attention to the region that will help all of us market our condos and businesses. Seems like everyone will win.

    Dear Aiman,

When I was in primary school, that was in the early sixties, frustrated people often threw rotten unhatched eggs (telour tembelang) at bride and bridegroom at wedding ceremonies. I had personally seen a few of such cases.

Usually the culprits are men (or were they boys) frustrated for not being able to marryi the girl…

Worst still, there were people who could 'make' centipede and it was then released into the bride's room. The creature would then ordered to sting her till she fell into coma. Normally only he (the culprit) could make the girl well again.

Tolerance and acceptance are two virtues that many people start learning during their teen years. These values, when imbibed in your character, can help you immensely in sailing through the rough periods of your married life. Usually, bride and bridegroom often neglect to see the goodness of these virtues when planning their life together. One of the reasons for that is many people consider tolerance as the value of yesteryears. According to them if you are not raising your voice or losing your temper, you are a coward. This wrong meaning has largely been driven by our desire to control everything that happens in our life. However, tolerance in married life does not mean that you "put up" constantly with your spouse in all his or her wrong … wedding planning, wedding planners, wedding event planners

Is there a url or link to send to my coworkers? Everyone who has been a park ranger for any period of time has their own stories of questions like these. Some I can't believe people asked unless in jest.

People ask me all the time where they can see animals. It is not a zoo, and the animals come and go however they like.

People also ask me about the weather. I am a park ranger, not a weatherman. We only pay attention to the weather from June 1st to December 1st. (Hurricane season.) Other than that, I don't care, because it has to be better than wherever those people came from; otherwise they wouldn't be here.

But my own favorite strange question was when I worked at Fort Morgan, Alabama: If they were so short back then, how did the build the fort so tall?

  • Tara says:

Hmmm… I actually disagree with you here. I can understand the difficulty with men wrestling their way into the bride-bridegroom imagery and language, but I would really challenge you to show me what's unBiblical about saying “I'm in love with God” (or, if you're being picky on the Trinity here, “I'm in love with Jesus.”)

No, Jesus is not my boyfriend, but He does categorically call Himself our Lover in the Scriptures, over and over again. And, yes, it's Lover in the sacred sense that waits for the consecration of that marriage, between the Bride and Bridegroom, the wedding feast that will occur at the end of time. This is love expressed with the agape context and God loves His people, collectively and individually.

Jesus isn't my boyfriend, nor do I have any desire to control Him, but He is unashamed about calling Himself Bridegroom and Lover… what grounds are there for saying that “I'm in love with God” is unBibilical in this context?

Great article. I agree with all of it. Having lived here for 12 years I'd recommend Gulf Shores or Orange Beach which are 1/2 hour away and a lot closer than Dauphin Island from the Grand Hotel.

At both beaches at both (Orange, Gulf Shores) water is cleaner (farther from Mississppi River), larger, safer, in better shape with way more to do in that area with a better view (no oil rig views) compared to Dauphin Island. The difference is HUGE. Dauphin Island is out of sand and the “current events” for that area are finding a sand source to replace.

You're spot on about Indian society being a repressed one. To be honest, if most parents would deal with their children 'growing up' in a matter-of-fact and categorical fashion, we'd be spared a lot of 'embarrassment and blushes'. And of course, the voyeurism results from the repression. The moment you taboo something, people get this insane urge to find out more about the subject-which-is-not-to-be-spoken-of.

Wedding ceremonies sure are boring. (Yes, I know I sound twelve. Can't help it :P ). Attending them as a guest is a pain in itself, I can only imagine what it is like for the bride/bridegroom. *shudder* Frankly, I personally don't set a lot of store by ceremonies. Compltete waste of time and energy, I'd say. But perhaps that's just me and my unsocial habits speaking.

  • ibrahim says:

In most Buddhist countries, there is no Buddhist marriage ceremony at all, because marriage is seen as something secular, lying completely outside the religious sphere. Thus, the marriage ceremonies are very different in different cultures.

I don't know where you found that text from a Buddhist marriage ceremony, but it is certainly not a general text for Buddhists in all countries.

Owing to the other cultures prevalent in the Buddhist countries (a heavy Confucian influence in China, Japan , Korea and South-East Asia, Hindu influence in India, Sri Lanka, Burma, etc), you might call most of these Buddhist countries fairly sexist or partiarchal, but in almost every case, Buddhism in itself has the more egalitarian influence, compared to other indigenious ideologies.

Nowadays, when Westerners become more and more interested in Buddhism, Buddhist masters have invented Buddhist marriage ceremonies as an answer to the demand from Western Buddhists, used to religious (mainly Christian) marriage ceremonies from their own countries – whereas the imported kinds of Buddhism usually don't have a traditional religious marriage ceremony (in many Buddhist cultures it is in fact seen as ill-boding for a monk or lama to be present at a wedding at all). These Buddhist marriage ceremonies are usually totally egalitarian, with no difference at all between bride and bridegroom.

Here is a good example, created in accordance with the techings of a prominent Tibetan lama, Lama Thubten Yeshe: http://www.fpmt.org/teachers/zopa/advice/pdf/weddingceremonyeditedkm.pdf

We had 6 adults and 4 kids ages 1, 2, 5 & 6 and they all had a great time, kayaking, paddle boating and swiming in the river. Thanks so much Shelly and Jerry, you were so accomidating, we will be sure to be back on our next visit to the Gulf Shore.

Hello from the Florida beach!! It's “HOT” and “MUGGY” here but beautiful. Cousins are having loads of fun together (and friends). Golfers are enjoying themselves. Moms are busy buying groceries for all the hungry and active young adults. We love your pictures of NL and hope to hear more of your adventures.
Cousins are enjoying Matt and John. We loved his xbox guitar playing… he's awesome. Having an adult house is working out GREAT… very relaxing when we want to be by ourselves… but we can go over and see them too.

Interesting story on the pythons, they've tried keeping snakes out of hawaii because they eat species of birds and animals found nowhere else. As for big constrictors like pythons I've heard if you're with someone being squeezed you can pour hard alcohol on them and they'll loosen up. So that's why I carry whiskey whenever I'm in the jungle, now I need to bring it to the florida beach too I guess.

I work for a NYC company that does event lighting, and we do a lot of high-end weddings. A few years ago, this company set up a very up-scale wedding reception only to take it down again when the party didn't happen- the groom stood the bride up at the altar; not only that, but he had done the same thing, to the SAME BRIDE (or not-quite-bride, I guess) a year or so before! I watched the headlines in the Post for a week, expecting 'Jilted Society Bride's Bloody Revenge' to pop up!

Honestly it sounds perfectly fine to me, quite lovely actually! You could add "Please" before the RSVP part if you wanted to. Otherwise I think it's great! Oh and I don't think there is anything wrong with saying no presents, but keep in mind even if you are not receiving gifts thank-you for coming notes ARE required for all of your guests that attend. Something along the lines of "thank you for coming to celebrate our special day, lovely to see you, blah blah etc." Hope that helps!

My husband's neice got married a couple years ago. I wasn't able to go, but he went with his kids (she's actually related to his ex-wife, but he was her favorite uncle growing up).

The invitation was printed on her computer, which is fine, but she used the Comic Sans font, so it looked like it was from a little kid. The invitation was worded like it was from her son, saying his mommy was marrying his daddy, which would have been cute, except this guy isn't the dad. I thought it was tacky, but not my place to judge.

The ceremony and reception was at the VFW, again no problem, except the bride and groom left immediately after the ceremony to go home TO CHANGE CLOTHES. In the mean time, the food arrived 20 minutes before the ceremony even started, and the mother of the bride wouldn't allow anyone to eat until the bride and groom got back.

They didn't get back for another hour (the family speculated that they were consumating the marriage), and when they returned, they were wearing shorts and t-shirts, while all of their guests and attendants were still dressed up in formal wear.

To top it all off, we found out a week after the "wedding", that the couple had actually gone to the justice of the peace 2 months before and gotten married, because they weren't sure the preacher would marry them (because she had a child out of wedlock). Between gift, airfare, hotel and clothing, we probably spent more on the wedding than they did. I was so pissed, I asked if it was too late to cancel the check we gave them.

Labron says only a handful of people knew of his actual decision, but hed did NOT mention the people who booked those 6 Florida beach houses for this weekend was the absolute finality it was Miami.

PLUS, Cleveland was NEVER in my analysis after all the Cleveland press who made the press reports that Labrons mother had been involved with onew his own teammates, and you HONESTLY believed that he was going to come back and have to look this teammate in the eye everyday that has slept with his mother? You've got to be kidding ! He would never have a days peace in Cleveland, so Cleveland was never in my analysis.

His friends didn't like his fiance, so the guys got him drunk and put him on a 5:30 am flight half-way across the country (several years ago, before the security stuff started). By the time the would-be groom sobered up, he had four hours to catch a flight back and try to get married. He was half an hour late, and she refused to marry him in front of everyone.

He says in hind-sight, it was the best thing that ever happened to him.

First of all I think that's a good idea that you all have decided to have a commitment ceremony. But how is your "girl" going to prepare to say her vows if it's a surprise? I think she should be included in the plans, because she may also have ideas that she wants to implement, it's her day as well. I'm not sure what your budget is, but I've left a website that focuses on gay/lesbians ceremonies/weddings. You could create a slide show of pictures of your lives together thus far, and have it playing during the vows, or at the reception if you think it will too much of a distraction at the actual ceremony. Good luck!

    Hi Jonathan,
I think the Pat was trying to make the point that no matter which airport you use you are only an hour away from the opposite end of the reference points, therefore fly to the airport that is most economical.

I have never stayed in Okaloosa. Didn’t look like much on our trips across 98 to see the Naval Air Museum in Pensacola.

We enjoyed Destin except for the traffic and long the waits to eat out during spring break or the summer. Seaside was nice too except it was a little pricy.

Attraction for attraction Panama City Beach matches up just fine according to our friends and the guests that stay in our Panama City Beach Condos. Believe it or not we have quite a few guests that have stayed in our condos multiple times.

Oh well I suppose that it just depends on your preference. I still think that PCB has lots to offer and that there is not really a need for anyone looking for a fun relaxing beach vacation or a golf outing to venture out of Bay County especially if they fly into Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport. If they ask, I suggest that they make the hour drive from Okaloosa to Panama City Beach even if the land over there.

I agree with Karla – that's pretty cool!

I was thinking about the notion of bride or bridegroom, and how this suggests such intimacy with God. Perhaps an inquiry might be, “What keeps me from intimacy like this? ” Separation from God keeps us from intimacy. Why do we separate ourselves? What keeps us from holding God's hand, peering into those eyes, feeling the warmth of God's body next to our own?

With this, I say “Nothing” and draw closer, and closer yet, till I inhabit this essence, and sing joyfully.

Blessings to you, and remember –

I assume you are referring to the account of things that will come to pass during the tribulation period, as the Lamb is united with His bride in Heaven?

    Here's a short definition:

Wedding: The "union" (non-sexual) of Christ with His "bride" in Heaven. It's a joining of sorts and the picture is one of a permanent union which is what marriage is supposed to be about. This is a SYMBOLIC wedding, not an actual "wedding".

Bride: The "church". This is composed of all believers of all times. A "universal" church does not exist on the earth today. Every time the word church is used (outside of references to the church in Heaven) it refers to a local assembly of believers.

    Bridegroom/Groom: Both refer to Christ

BP, which was leasing the rig, gave Florida and the other Gulf states millions of dollars in marketing money. In Panama City, Rowe’s group sent out daily video of its beaches and posted updated photos on digital billboards in cities throughout the southeast. “We’ve never tried to hide the impacts from the oil spill because, by telling visitors and potential visitors what was going on, we felt that was important to reassure them. If they came to Panama City beach, they would understand what their vacation experience would be,” Rowe says. Throughout the summer, the visitors bureau ran promotions and beach celebrations —even giving away $20,000 in gift cards. The result? Tourism dropped by 15 percent. The weather was still good and the beaches were open, but people stayed away. It’s an experience that left many in Panama City a little bitter. Mike Thomas, who owns two restaurants in town and is a member of the Bay County Commission, says he’s disappointed at news coverage that he feels lumped Panama City in with communities…

  • Good video, thanks for keeping us posted. God bless everyone affected by this.

Growing up I didn't know drive-ins were going extinct. When I finally found out they were, I consider myself very lucky to have one in my backyard in Fort Collins, Colorado. At one time in a house I rented, quite literally. The only other nearest ones are in Fort Morgan and Colorado Springs, which are hours away, so I consider myself one of the lucky last to have one. And when it's opened, it is always packed. That theater gets people as far as Cheyenne and Denver if the movie it's showing is highly anticipated one. The owner's family has done well to keep his 'hobby' alive.

There's nothing so fun to watch than a kid that's brought to it for the first time. They go on and on to the people with them about how cool it is.

Oh, hai. If you want to see if there's one near you, this website has a list of open drive ins: http://www.drive-ins.com/

Thanks for posting this on FB. Great song! We were in Gulf Shores (Orange Beach) the first of June just days before the oil hit. It was/is very sad! If you haven't been I highly recommend that area for a family vacation. It is a great place to visit and they need our support!

    Hey Be and Chris,
Hello from the Florida beach!!
